Microneedling: What It Is and Why It Works.

The science behind one of the most effective skin rejuvenation treatments available today.

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling — also known as collagen induction therapy — is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that uses fine, sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin's surface. These micro-channels trigger the body's natural wound-healing response, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin — the two proteins responsible for keeping skin firm, smooth, and youthful.

What Can Microneedling Treat?

Microneedling is remarkably versatile. It is clinically proven to improve a wide range of skin concerns, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles — particularly around the eyes, mouth, and forehead
  • Acne scarring — by breaking down scar tissue and encouraging new collagen formation
  • Uneven skin texture — smoothing rough or bumpy skin
  • Hyperpigmentation and sun damage — evening out discolouration
  • Enlarged pores — minimising their appearance over time
  • Stretch marks — improving skin elasticity in affected areas

The Treatment Process

At The Aesthetics Room, your microneedling session begins with a thorough skin consultation and cleanse. Our therapist then uses a precision device to pass the microneedling head gently across the skin, creating thousands of tiny, controlled channels in a matter of minutes.

The entire treatment typically takes 60 to 75 minutes, as we incorporate additional steps to enhance your results. Immediately after, the skin will appear flushed and may feel warm — similar to a mild sunburn. This typically resolves within 24 hours, revealing smoother, more radiant skin as the healing process progresses.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

For most skin concerns, a course of 3 to 6 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart is recommended for optimal results. Acne scarring and deeper textural issues may require more sessions. Many clients choose maintenance treatments every 3 to 6 months to sustain their results long-term.

Is Microneedling Right for Me?

Microneedling is safe for most skin types and tones, including darker complexions where some laser treatments carry a higher risk of pigmentation changes. During your consultation, our therapists will assess your skin and discuss whether microneedling — or a combination approach — is the most appropriate treatment for your specific concerns and goals.
